INVESTIGATION – The Minister of Ecological Transition, Christophe Béchu, announced on January 24 that the State could buy back the houses flooded last November and January. An opportunity that the victims intend to seize, determined to leave everything behind.

Christine would never have considered leaving her home. Even after the floods of last November, during which 70 cm of water invaded his house located in Blendecques, in Pas-de-Calais. But the floods of early January were “one drop too many”she whispers. “I loved my house and decorating it. It had been redone in 2018, I thought I would have peace of mind until the end of my days. But now, I no longer have a taste for it. I go out every day so as not to stay there. Psychologically it’s too hard”, she testifies, with a heavy heart. The proposal for the State to buy back flooded houses, made by the Minister of Ecological Transition, Christophe Béchu, on January 24, therefore appeared to him as a relief. Or rather as the only possible exit from this “nightmare”. The one who lives daily with the noise of the engines of four machines to dry her walls, wants to take advantage of this offer to leave her house, which has become “a bad memory”.
