47.4 million euros turned out to be an unprecedented amount spent by Portuguese clubs during the winter market.
FC Porto and Benfica were the teams that invested the most in the January transfer market. The signings of Marcos Leonardo and Otávio Ataíde were the most notable changes in the Portuguese market.
The 47.4 million euros turned out to be an unprecedented amount in the winter transfer market in our country, with highlights being the spending of Benfica (23 million euros) and FC Porto (12 million euros).
Striker Marcos Leonardo cost around 18 million euros to the Reds’ coffers, while Argentine Gianluca Prestianni cost nine million euros, with this deal including a bonus of two million euros for goals.
The reds also secured the services of Benjamín Rollheiser, on loan from Estudiantes. The player has a release clause of nine million euros.
Spaniard Álvaro Carreras also entered the Estádio da Luz, with Benfica still trying to make up for Grimaldo’s departure to Bayer Leverkusen, with the Reds having an option clause of six million euros.
FC Porto stopped short of signing central defender Otávio Ataíde from Famalicão, for 12 million euros. The player arrives to fill the absence of Iván Marcano, who is recovering from a knee injury, and also the departure of David Carmo, who was loaned to Olympiacos.
Sporting, who are leaders of the first league, invested 700 thousand euros in Italian-Brazilian defender Rafael Pontelo, and also paid four million euros in French midfielder Koba Koindredi to Estoril Praia.
At SC Braga, Italian Cher Ndour arrives from PSG, but without a release clause after leaving Benfica for the French.
Rio Ave was one of the most active teams in the winter market, but due to the arrival of Greek investor Evangelos Marinakis, it added 11 reinforcements to the squad. Among the new additions, the highlight is the arrival of Adrien Silva. The midfielder, formerly of Sporting, had been without a club since leaving Al Wahda, from the United Arab Emirates, and is returning to the I League, six and a half years later.
Also noteworthy are the arrivals of João Teixeira, Yakubu Aziz, Mateo Tanlongo, Hélder Sá and Cristian Devenish at the Vilacondense team. Nélson Oliveira (Vitória de Guimarães), João Basso (Estoril), Yanis Hamache (Arouca), Alex Pinto and Jonathan Buatu (Gil Vicente), Raphael Guzzo (Chaves), Bruno Costa (Vizela), Mika (Moreirense), Nanu and Rodrigo Pinho (Estrela da Amadora) and Filipe Soares (Famalicão) were other players to return to the Portuguese league.
Domestically, André Castro moved to Moreirense, and Vasco Fernandes left Casa Pia and signed for Chaves.
Farense was the only team in the I Liga not to make changes during the winter market, while Boavista was once again prevented from registering players, for the third consecutive window, due to debts.
