Severe Storm Causes Havoc in Nordland and Trøndelag – Wind warnings and emergency reports

There is a red warning for extremely strong winds in Nordland from the morning hours. The danger diminishes at 1 p.m.

In Trøndelag, people have felt the wind. It has been a dark and stormy evening.

The police in Trøndelag have received a number of reports, but believe the damage may be greater than their log shows.

Thanks to the wind

– We have had a lot to do. Between 40 and 50 messages received by us during the night. Those are probably the most extreme cases we get notified about, a good number more will probably tick in to insurance companies and other things when people wake up and get to look around in daylight, says operations manager Bjørnar Gaasvik to NTB.

It is described as the most extreme incident during the night.

– We were afraid for the residents as most of the planks and other material from the roof were lying and swirling in the air, says Gaasvik.

Worried about man

On the island of Leka, a search operation for a man with dementia has been stopped due to the extreme weather. He was reported missing by his wife on Wednesday evening.

The fire brigade and volunteers started a search, but it was stopped out of concern for their safety.

– We are worried about how things are going with him and want to start up as soon as the wind dies down, says Gaasvik.

The police state that the man has gray hair, is approximately 1.75 meters tall and is wearing a blue bubble jacket and blue trousers. The police are asking people who may see him to contact him.

– We have done what we can to be as ready as possible to start the search operation again when we can. There have been measured hurricanes out there, so we absolutely had to finish, says Gaasvik.
