the essentials The teaching unions are calling for a strike on Thursday February 1, in particular to “demand resources, respect and educational freedom”. A demonstration is planned in Toulouse, from 2 p.m.
Overcrowded classes, absent teachers not replaced, teachers’ remuneration which is plateauing, lack of support for students with disabilities (AESH) and a Minister of National Education Amélie Oudéa-Castéra deemed “illegitimate” are all reasons for education personnel to go on strike, Thursday February 1, in Toulouse.
The main teaching unions – FSU (Snes and Snuipp) FO, CGT, Sud education, Unsa and Sgen – are calling for a strike with a demonstration planned in Toulouse, from 2 p.m., Place Arnaud Bernard. Schools, middle schools and high schools will be impacted.
Minimum reception service
The words are harsh against the government: “the staff live a daily life that is always degraded: classes always overcrowded, salary promises not kept, recruitment crisis which persists, precariousness of AESH, school lives under tension, deleterious reforms. Instead of meet the expectations of staff, the President of the Republic and his government communicate in all directions to distract public opinion and capture the attention of the conservative fringe of the electorate”, accuse the unions. Snuipp calls, in particular, “l ‘immediate cancellation of job cuts’.
No meals in the canteen
For its part, the Toulouse town hall has taken the lead because the operation of the 210 schools risks being disrupted and is setting up a minimum reception service: note that meals will not be delivered to the canteens but children will be able to be welcomed with a packed lunch and a snack provided by the parents (subject to sufficient supervision). Families can obtain details from school management and Clae (leisure centers associated with the school).
Finally, the city informs that for kindergarten students who cannot be accommodated in their school, three sites will be open from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (registration between 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.): the Center du Petit Capitole (153, avenue de Lardenne), Juncasse nursery school (131, rue Louis Plana) and the Patte d’Oie nursery school (87, rue de Cugnaux).
