PremiumVladimir Putin wants to reduce the number of abortions in Russia as part of raising the birth rate.

At the same time, he wants women in the country to give birth to “eight or more children”.

– There are obvious paradoxes in the expectations that the regime places on the country’s women, states Stefan Ingvarsson, analyst at the Center for Eastern European Studies and former cultural councilor in Moscow.

“Many families outside the big Russian cities have never been as well off as they are now when fathers, brothers and sons are participating in the war.”
