US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen plans to urge Congress to “act quickly” to provide additional support for Ukraine and warn that inaction will “handle victory” to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
This, as European Pravda writes, reports Fox News with reference to the text of Yellen’s speech at a meeting with Vice-Presidents of the European Commission Margrethe Vestager and Valdis Dombrovskis.
“Europe has been a key partner in efforts to force Russia to pay more and more by introducing multiple packages of sanctions, setting a new oil price cap, and stepping up the fight against sanctions evasion,” she said.
“In Ukraine, our financial support is inextricably linked to success on the battlefield. It helps support Ukraine’s war effort. Simply put, we cannot allow Ukraine to run out of money before it runs out of ammunition,” she added.
The Biden administration is now asking Congress to provide Ukraine with $11.8 billion in additional budget support.
On Wednesday, Yellen is expected to urge Congress to “act quickly to support Ukraine, including through direct budget assistance.”
“Inaction will be a victory for President Putin and will have unimaginable consequences not only for Ukraine, but for our collective security,” Yellen said.
She said the support is “not charity” but an “investment” in the national security of the United States and its allies.
As reported, the White House hopes that the United States will regain leadership in supporting Ukraine in its defense from Russian aggression.
Previously, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken statedthat the situation with the cessation of American aid supplies to Ukraine has already affected the battlefield in a certain way.
At the same time, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Kuleba repeated his confidence that the US Congress will approve additional funding for Ukraine, despite differences between representatives of the two parties on the issue of migration.
