Biden Emphasizes No Wider War in the Middle East After US Soldiers Killed in Jordan

Washington DC

President United States of America (AS) Joe Biden emphasized that he did not want the war in the Middle East to spread further after three of his soldiers were killed in Jordanin a drone attack orchestrated by a group it supported Iran.

However, Biden also revealed that he had made a decision regarding the US response to the deadly attack.

While speaking to reporters at the White House when he was about to leave for a campaign trip to Florida, as reported ReutersWednesday (31/1/2024), Biden said that the US does not want war to spread further in the Middle East.

Biden’s comments were in line with other Washington officials who also said the US did not want to go to war with Iran. Tehran has denied it supports the groups behind the attacks in Jordan.

“I don’t think we need a wider war in the Middle East. That’s not what I’m looking for,” Biden told reporters.

But when asked if he had decided how the US would respond to the attack in Jordan, Biden answered: “Yes.”

When asked further about whether Iran was responsible for the attack, Biden added: “I think so… They are responsible in the sense that they supplied weapons (to the perpetrators of the attack).”

Biden did not explain further about the decisions he made regarding the response to the death of the US soldier. But White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters aboard the presidential plane Air Force One that the US could have responded more than once.

“It’s safe to say that we’re going to respond in an appropriate way and it’s very likely that what you’re going to see is a tiered approach here, not just one action, but essentially multiple actions,” Kirby explained.
