It was an ephemeral connection, the end and contours of which were only now known. Bruno Paixão, former international referee who started to collaborate with some clubs in the field of arbitration from the moment he ‘hung up the whistle’ in 2018, had a similar partnership with Belenenses, established at the beginning of the season, in September, and ended two months later due to… objections from the partners.
In a general meeting held on November 6, after Bruno Paixão’s collaboration with the Cross of Christ emblem was questioned and criticized by some members of the club, a motion was presented to recommend the management of Belenenses to end the connection with the former referee 49 years old. In the vote that followed, there were 54 votes against and 45 in favor. Despite the proposal being rejected, President Patrick Morais de Carvalho committed to reflecting on the matter, taking into account the arguments of some of the intervening partners, who reported an alleged case of indecent assault by the former referee, in 2001, at Académica -Immortal. After a conversation with Bruno Paixão, days later, the call was ended.
