Renowned Broadway actress Chita Rivera, a nine-time Tony Award nominee, died Tuesday in New York. She was 91 years old.

Actress, singer and dancer, Chita Rivera rose to international fame playing the role of Anita in the original production West Side Story, first in the theater, in 1957-58, then in the cinema. She was also responsible for the creation of Sweet Charitythen played the title character of Kiss of the Spider Woman and the role of Velma Kelly in Chicago.
