Turkey to Begin Production of its Own Spacecraft and Aircraft Carrier: President Erdogan Makes Historic Announcement

Turkey will begin production of its spacecraft. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced this at a meeting with young people, his speech was broadcast by NTV.

“Sending our first astronaut into space was our first step to prepare a new generation. I hope we will see our rocket in space. With God’s will, we will start the production of our own spacecraft in the coming years,” Erdogan said.

In January, Turkey sent its first astronaut, Alper Gezeravtsi, to the ISS. It is expected to return to Earth later this week.

Erdogan also announced plans to build a second Turkish aircraft carrier. “When we came to power in 2002, Turkey’s share of its own defense industry was only 20%. We have now reached the 80% supply level and intend to reach 100%. If you are weak militarily, you are abandoned challenges. Now we will build our second aircraft carrier in our own shipyard,” the Turkish leader noted.

In April 2023, the Turkish Navy received the landing ship Anadolu, which can carry attack drones. In Ankara, it is called the first Turkish aircraft carrier. In January, the Turkish Defense Industry Executive Committee decided to build new types of ships for the Navy, including aircraft carriers.
