Russian Tennis Player Alexander Shevchenko Changes Citizenship to Represent Kazakhstan

Russian tennis player Alexander Shevchenko will represent Kazakhstan. He informed about the change of citizenship on social media.

“I’m proud of it and I can’t wait to step on the field and create unforgettable moments for myself and the country.” wrote Alexander Ševchenko via tennis journalist Mario Boccardi.

The native of Rostov-on-Don, currently the 59th player in the ATP world ranking, will have a nationality designation next to his name after almost two years. In recent years, he performed under a neutral flag, just like other tennis players from Russia and Belarus.

The change will affect him already at the ATP 250 tournament in Marseille, France. Ševčenko will play in the round of 16 against Czech Dalibor Svrčin. At the tournament, he will also perform in doubles alongside his already representative colleague Alexander Bublik, the portal informs tennis.com.

Slovak fans may know Alexander Ševčenko from the Bratislava Open 2022, where he won his first title on the ATP Challenger Tour. In the singles final, he defeated the Italian Riccardo Bonadia 6:3, 7:5.
