Former NBA player Rajon Rondo was arrested last Sunday in Indiana, United States, on charges related to illegal possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana and drugs. The charges filed against the basketball player who began his professional career in the top league with the Boston Celtics are considered misdemeanors.

The guard, who stood out for 16 seasons, was stopped for a traffic violation while driving in Jackson County. During the inspection resulting from his poor driving behavior, an officer detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The American media TMZ added that the subsequent search of the car revealed the presence of a gun, an amount of marijuana considered excessive for personal use and an unusual variety of drugs.
According to records, the incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Sunday and Rondo was later released on $705 bail. It is important to mention that, due to a previous case against the former player, he was not authorized to possess the firearm that he was found during the inspection.

Rajon has had previous brushes with the law: In May 2022, an emergency protective order was filed against him after an incident in which he reportedly displayed aggressive behavior in public. However, this case was dismissed weeks later. Additionally, in 2020, a woman sued him on the grounds that she had been injured during an altercation with the basketball player and his girlfriend, a case that was closed without any ruling.

It is worth remembering that the point guard left a significant mark on the NBA with outstanding highlights during his nine seasons with the Boston Celtics, the team with which he won the NBA championship in the 2007-2008 season. In addition, Rondo won another title with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2019-2020 cycle. During his career he averaged 9.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game and participated in four consecutive All-Star Games from 2010 to 2013. He also led the league in assists three times and played for teams such as the Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers and his subsequent retirement in the Cleveland Cavaliers.
This latest event adds another chapter to Rajon’s legal problems off the court. Although his contributions on the playing field are undeniable, these off-field incidents raised concerns about his handling of life after basketball. The date for Rondo’s hearing has not yet been announced.
