In the USSR, among all the strong drinks, those that were familiar to people were in greatest demand – mainly, of course, we are talking about Russian vodka. However, the range of drinks available to Soviet people was not limited to it.
Contrary to the stereotype about the paucity of choice of alcohol, in fact, in the era of the USSR there were a lot of different drinks, and sometimes there were such original ones that you can’t find anywhere now.
One of them is the famous “Cream”. It was something like a liqueur with a high sugar content. There were about 60 grams of powder per 100 million.
There were two types of cream – chocolate and dogwood.
The first was made with cocoa infusion with the addition of vanilla; it had a soft, sweet taste and aroma of chocolate. And the strength of the drink was 23%.
Dogwood cream was produced using alcoholized dogwood juice with the addition of vanilla infusion. It had a sweet and sour taste and the aroma of dogwood, and was also a little “lighter” than a chocolate drink: its strength was 20%.
Due to the increased sugar content, both drinks were quite difficult to drink on their own. That’s why they preferred to add them to coffee. The ladies especially liked such “cocktails” – they went with a bang with desserts!
After the collapse of the USSR, Krem drinks disappeared from the shelves – and you can’t even find domestic analogues for them now. Therefore, many people no longer even remember what “Chocolate” and “Kizil Cream” are.
