Will there be cardinal changes in the Italian Lyceum in Gorna Banya… This question is being asked by more and more parents whose children study at the elite school. And all this is being talked about only a few months after the school has a new director in the person of Ivan Kapurdov. He is a teacher of biology and health education and won the competition in the Ministry of Culture for the director of the Italian Lyceum. It is important to note that the school is under the umbrella of the Ministry of Culture (MK) and not the Ministry of Education (MOE). In an alert to the FACTS, worried parents are now raising the alarm about many changes that are being talked about and not officially announced by management.
“He is one of the best teachers in the school, very respected by teachers, students and parents, so I think the choice is good,” commented Velichka Velyanova, who heads the National Educational Complex for Culture with a Lyceum for studying Italian language and culture (as is the full name of the school) since 1988.
The National Educational Complex in Culture was established in 1976/1977 by a decree of the Council of Ministers with a kindergarten group, with one first and one fifth grade and is
associated with UNESCO.
As worrying facts, parents point out that the school may leave MK and move to MO, which means a change in funding. At the moment, the Italian embassy also participates in the financing, because the completion of the school is accompanied by the issuance of an Italian diploma. And with it, all higher education institutions in Italy open their doors to the applicant, and without having to legalize the diploma and take equivalency exams.
Will the arranged canteen, where daily cooking is done, be replaced with catering… Will the transportation of students be continued with organized transport… Will there be a change in the curriculum… All questions that worry parents, but there are no clear answers. Also, the parents supported Ivan Kapudrov’s program when he applied for the position of director, but what of it is already being implemented a few months later. And last but not least, the school has a huge field. Will everything there be kept as it is…
We remind you that parents and students from the 12th grade B at NUKK LIIEK distributed a letter addressed to the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Regional Department of Education – Sofia-city and to the Embassy of the Italian Republic in Bulgaria. In the complaint, the worried parents claim that the director Kupudrov does not make independent decisions, but coordinates everything with his deputy, Alexander Ivanov.
