Sweden must present a vision for the EU’s development that can challenge the French one, writes Hannes Berggren in Smedjan.

He highlights French President Emmanuel Macron’s ideas to boost EU investment using the common budget and to introduce trade barriers that he says would economically harm European countries and even EU allies.
Now Sweden must put forward a vision for the EU’s development that can challenge the French one, he believes.
“In June there are elections to the European Parliament and unfortunately few Swedish candidates are profiled in budget discipline, market-driven development and free trade. Such voices are needed in a European Parliament that is increasingly convinced of the ‘Brussels effect'”, he writes.
