How much performance will I get if I connect my Grabo via OCulink? This was reported by overseas media VideoCardz.
The OCulink connector is a connector that allows you to use an external GPU (eGPU) with a PCIe 4.0 x4 (theoretical value 64Gbps / maximum measured value 63Gbps) connection. Recently, it has been adopted in notebook PCs, portable gaming PCs, mini PCs, etc.
I am a Chinese reviewerGolden Pig Upgrade氏(金猪升级紧) conducted a test to see how much performance can be obtained when using an external graphics card with OCulink. The results are below.
▼GeForce RTX 4090
- 3DMark Time Spy Graphics score
- Desktop PC: 36487
- Notebook PC OCulink When using built-in display: 28230 (-22.6%)
- Notebook PC OCulink When using external display: 30429 (-16.6%)
- 3DMark Time Spy Extreme Graphics score
- Desktop PC: 19930
- Notebook PC OCulink When using built-in display: 18902 (-5.2%)
- Notebook PC OCulink When using external display: 19925 (±0%)
The above is the benchmark result of GeForce RTX 4090 connected to Core Ultra 5 125H notebook PC. Compared to a desktop PC, Time Spy showed a decrease of up to 22.6%. On the other hand, in the demanding 4K resolution Time Spy Extreme, I was able to perform -5.2% using the laptop’s built-in display, and on par with a desktop PC by connecting an external display.
Golden Pig Upgrade also briefly tested the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER. The results are below.
▼GeForce RTX 4070 The SUPER
- 3DMark Time Spy Graphics score
- Desktop PC: 24613
- Notebook PC OCulink When using built-in display: 22199 (-9.8%)
The above results are only benchmark results for Time Spy / Time Spy Extreme. Please note that the reduction rate may vary depending on other benchmarks, actual games, and resolutions. Please take a look at it for reference only.
