NEW YORK — A Brooklyn man was arrested for driving without a license when he allegedly caused a violent pileup that killed a 14-year-old boy who was walking in his neighborhood, police announced.
The arrest came after a crash Saturday night in Canarsie where police say 45-year-old Rayan Salmon crashed into a car before veering into the teen.
A crash investigation determined that Salmon was driving near East 81st Street and Glenwood Road when he crashed into a second vehicle, police said. The impact of that crash caused Salmon’s car to spin and crash into 14-year-old Christian Antoine, who was walking a block from his home at the time, according to police records.
The accident occurred around 6:15 p.m., about an hour after sunset.
Doctors took Antoine to a nearby hospital, but life-saving measures were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.
Police said both drivers involved in the crash were also taken to hospitals and were expected to survive.
It was unclear whether Salmon would face additional charges. Information about the man’s attorney was not immediately known.
The New York City Police Department Highway District Collision Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
