SERANG, RADARBANTEN.CO.ID – Earlier this year, the Serang District Health Service (Dinkes) discovered a case of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in its area.
It was recorded that there were 52 cases of dengue fever that occurred in almost all sub-districts in Serang Regency.
All of the cases that occurred were handled and none resulted in death.
Of this number, there was an increase in dengue fever cases when compared to the same number of cases in January 2023, which was only 25 cases with one person dying.
The Manager of the Animal Source Disease Program (P2BB) at the Serang Regency Health Office, Pipih Saripah, said that at the beginning of 2024 his party would find 52 cases of dengue fever in Serang Regency.
“Just entering the beginning of 2024, we have found dozens of cases of dengue fever but no one has died, only being treated in hospitals and health centers. “The reason is because the season changes from dry to rainy, which causes many dengue mosquito larvae to emerge,” he said when contacted by telephone, Monday, January 29 2024.
He admitted that the Serang District Health Office had taken anticipatory steps such as carrying out Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN) with the 4 M Plus behavior, namely draining, burying, covering and monitoring potential places for mosquitoes to breed.
Not only that, he also invited the public to get involved in conducting epidemiological investigations about dengue fever, as well as in controlling dengue fever, eradicating mosquito larvae that have the potential to cause dengue fever.
“We still do fogging, but the most important thing is eradicating mosquito nests by removing mosquito larvae and providing abatement. “We also have Jumantik cadres in all villages in one house, one cadre, they go into the field to deal with dengue fever,” he said.
He also asked the public to be alert because now the rainy season has begun, where there are lots of standing water that needs to be watched out for because it can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes that transmit dengue fever.
“Because we are moving into the rainy season, dengue mosquito larvae usually start to grow. “That’s why we provide outreach to the community, one house, one jumantik, through mutual cooperation to eradicate mosquito nests,” he explained.
He also asked parents to be alert in taking their children who show symptoms of dengue fever to the nearest Community Health Center or hospital so that they can be treated immediately.
“The incubation period for dengue fever is 2-7 days, so if, for example, a child has a fever accompanied by joint pain, don’t wait too long, immediately take him to the nearest health facility,” he explained.
Parents can also make efforts to reduce the symptoms that arise due to dengue fever.
“First, compress, give him something to drink so that the heat goes down. “Don’t wait too long, you must immediately go to the nearest health facility,” he concluded.
In 2023 there will be 237 cases of dengue fever with one person dying in January 2023 in Binuang District. Of that number, the highest was in December with 36 dengue fever cases.
