Dostal was injured in the second half of the duel against the South African team TS Galaxy (4:3). A hospital examination confirmed the suspicion of a facial fracture. “Unfortunately, Dosty has a broken cheekbone and will fly back to the Czech Republic today. He will have an operation at home and a long break from football,” the club stated. “Injuries are part of football, so we won’t make a tragedy out of it and we’ll definitely see each other soon,” said Dostál in a video message, whose face is “adorned” by a swelling and a bruise under his right eye. He should undergo surgery on Monday.
The 34-year-old Dostál missed only one of the 19 games of the currently ninth-placed team in the Czech league table in the fall, and also had a minimum of absences in the previous two seasons, making over 30 starts in each. He is only six games away from reaching the 300 mark in the top competition. The former Slavia and Ostrava player has been playing for Bohemians since 2016, scoring nine goals in the league.
Striker David Puskáč and midfielder Jan Matoušek were also injured in Saturday’s duel. According to the statement of Bohemians assistant coach Ivan Hašek, the first of them has problems with his abdominal muscle, the second suffered a “sprain” above the knee.
