What is meant by alopecia?
Ghada bin Saif said during her hosting on the “Sabah Saudi Arabia” program: Alopecia is hair loss, and many diseases fall under it, and they can affect the hair, eyebrows, beard, or limbs.
Symptoms of alopecia
She added: Symptoms of alopecia are hair loss, which may be accompanied by itching, a tingling sensation or pain, crusts, redness, and purulent blisters.
Its causes
She continued: One of the causes of alopecia is typical or male hair loss, which begins with thinning hair in the upper part of the hair and then reaches a completely hairy area, as well as telogen effluvium, where there is stress in the body that leads to hair loss, such as a lack of vitamins and iron, high temperature, in women after childbirth. And also a bacterial or viral infection, as well as an immune defect in a spot on the body. There is traction alopecia, which results from hair pulling, and psychomanic alopecia, which results from the person himself pulling out his hair.
Children and alopecia
She continued: Children may suffer from alopecia as a result of a fungal infection, which the child often acquires from animals, especially cats, or from other children as a result of contact with an infected person, and it is called tinea capitis.
