The reigning champions from Tyrol averted their first defeat of the season at the last moment and remained unbeaten in the powerfusion Austrian Volley League.
Sokol/Post SV Vienna gave up a 2-0 set lead against Innsbruck and lost 2-3 after five sets (25:22, 25:22, 18:25, 24:26, 13:15).
The Viennese team is still happy, says Sokol captain Florian Weikert: “We are of course sad at first because we gave up a win, but on the other hand it is a very unexpected and great point gain. In the end we are very satisfied .”
Amstetten beat second-placed TSV Hartberg in the local Johann-Pölz-Halle 3:1 (25:21, 19:25, 30:28, 25:22). The Mostviertel team improved to eighth place and are on course for the playoffs, Hartberg is now four points behind Tyrol.
Aich/Dob wins the Carinthian derby
Union Waldviertel and SK Aich/Dob celebrate confident home victories. The Northmen beat bottom team VBC TLC Weiz 3-0 (25:21, 25:12, 25:23).
Runner-up Aich/Dob is safe in the Carinthian derby against VBK Wörther-See-Löwen Klagenfurt (25:14, 25:21, 25:15). The Wörther-See-Löwen fall back to ninth place.
UVC Graz, however, suffered a surprising home defeat. The Murstadt team lost to UVC Ried 1:3 (29:27, 15:25, 23:25, 21:25) and had to overcome a setback in the three-way battle for third place. Graz is now fifth, three points behind Waldviertel and two behind Aich/Dob, but has only played 15 games – one game fewer than its two opponents. Ried is still sixth.
