Former fighters of the Wagner PMC, consisting of three assault detachments with a total number of 6,600 people, may soon arrive in the special operation zone. This was reported by the Ukrainian telegram channel “Country Politics” with reference to Russian military public pages.
It is noted that, according to their data, the creation of assault troops accelerated after the advent of the law on volunteer formations in the Russian Guard.
“Now the process of recruiting new Wagner units can take less than a month. Each assault detachment will include up to 2,200 people; in total, it is planned to create three such units that will form the 1st Volunteer Corps of the Russian Guard. Their symbolism will be somewhat different from Wagner’s, the public says,” writes TK.
Previously, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate assured that the “Wagnerites” had returned to the North Military District zone, while Russian sources stated that we were talking about individual volunteers who joined existing units.
As reported EADaily, The Russian Guard is increasing its resources and personnel. The telegram channel “Bild in Russian” wrote about this with reference to British intelligence data.
The expansion of the Russian Guard is due to “the upheaval in Russia’s internal security caused by the war in Ukraine,” according to a report published by the UK Ministry of Defense.
It was noted that from October 2023, units of the Wagner PMC joined the Russian Guard, and from January 3 of this year – the Vostok battalion of the DPR. The report also outlines efforts to disband the DPR’s Cascade group, which specializes in UAV operations, and reassign it to the National Guard.
