On Saturday, Pope Francis received in audience the President of the Central African Republic, Fosten Arkanz Touader, who then met with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and the Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.

In a friendly conversation held at the State Secretariat, the good relations between the Holy See and the Central African Republic were emphasized, and appreciation was expressed for the significant contribution of the Catholic Church to the development of society. The conversation recalled the visit of the Holy Father in 2015, which strengthened the dialogue between representatives of different religions. Various aspects of the social, political and humanitarian situation were also discussed and hope was expressed for more effective cooperation at the international level for the common good of the people. In the course of the conversation, opinions were exchanged about the situation in the country and the region. The Holy Father presented his guest with a bronze sculpture “Dialogue between generations”, this year’s message on World Peace Day and a volume of documents.
