Colombia’s Acoustic Architecture Boom Transforms Latin American Music Industry

Bogotá — In recent years, Colombia has experienced a significant boom in the field of acoustic architecture, becoming a regional benchmark that has positively impacted the music industry in Latin America.

This phenomenon has generated an increase of close to 26% in recorded music income in the region, according to data from Statista, consolidating the country as an epicenter of development and creation of recording studios with the highest standards of acoustic quality. .

Such exponential growth has led to an increasing demand for Colombia recording studios that not only meet technical requirements but also introduce cutting-edge innovations.

Juan David Duque, CEO and co-founder of DBA Acústica, points out that in cities like Medellín, where the music industry has become a protagonist, the demand for this type of spaces has increased by up to approximately 90%.

“The current demand goes beyond simple recording; Artists seek immersive experiences, with spaces that fuse cutting-edge technology with artistic essence. “Currently, we are seeing a trend towards modular studios that adapt to various musical genres and have good aesthetics, since it is increasingly common for artists to record content for social networks or even parts of their music videos in these places,” Duke comments.

This versatility of the country’s recording studios has attracted the attention of Latin American artists and international producers, establishing Colombia as a preferred destination for high-quality music creation.

This is evident in the growing turnover of the industry in the region, which has been constantly increasing over the last eight years, reaching its peak in 2021, with an increase of more than 31%, according to Statista data.

“Acoustic architecture has become key to music production, achieving a controlled environment where sounds can be captured and reproduced with the highest quality possible. This involves creating a room that minimizes interference from external noises, controls reverberation and guarantees a balanced acoustic response across the entire frequency spectrum,” adds Duque.

Likewise, it highlights that for this it is essential to use cutting-edge technology such as acoustic panels, bass traps, acoustic curtains and other specialized devices that contribute to optimizing the sound conditions of a recording space.

Great artists such as Juanes, J Balvin, Maluma, Nicky Jam, Andrés Cepeda, among others, have performed in recording studios in Colombia.

The combination of innovation, technical quality and technology has catapulted Colombia towards leadership in the creation of sound spaces that not only highlight the melodies of music, but also generate a positive economic impact throughout the region.
