In the US, the conflict between the governor of the state of Texas, Republican Greg Abbott, and the federal authorities over the protection of the southern border against the influx of migrants has intensified.
As reported by Ukrinform with reference to PoliticoTexas has deployed the state’s National Guard to protect the border, which does not allow the federal Border Patrol to patrol.
Abbott said on Wednesday that US President Joe Biden had “ignored the demand for Texas to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities” and the state declared an “invasion” by numerous migrants, relying on “Texas’ constitutional authority to protect and defend itself.”
A barbed wire fence was installed in Texas, but a court allowed the Federal Border Patrol to remove it.
Abbott, however, said the fence would be installed.
A group of 24 state governors representing the Republican Party endorsed Abbott.
“We stand in solidarity with our colleague, Governor Greg Abbott, and the state of Texas in using all tools and strategies, including barbed wire fences, to secure the border,” the statement said.
According to the governors, since the Biden administration “abandoned its constitutional obligations” to the states, Texas has every legal reason to protect the sovereignty of “our states and our nation.”
The statement also said that “the Biden administration is refusing to enforce existing immigration laws and is illegally allowing the mass parole across America of migrants who entered our country illegally.”

These disputes are fueling the conflict over immigration legislation in Congress.
As reported, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stated that the United States intends to work with governments, civil society, international organizations and other partners to address the root causes of illegal migration.
According to US authorities, in September 2023 alone, US border patrols detained more than 200,000 migrants who illegally crossed the US-Mexico border. The total number of people detained at the southern border of the United States in the last two years has exceeded two million.
