Unai Emery’s men managed to hit the hosts’ goal at the start of the match, but Douglas Luiz’s goal in the 12th minute was disallowed after VAR intervention due to a handball.
For the entire match, “Chelsea” made 10 shots against 13 in “Aston Villa” (on the plane of the goal – 4:5). In terms of expected goals (xG), Mauricio Pochettino’s men were slightly worse – 0.69 to 1.09, although they dominated the “lions” in possession of the ball – 57% to 43%.
However, none of the teams managed to score at least one goal in this match. Therefore, a rematch awaits them – the meeting will take place in February at the “Villa Park” stadium in Birmingham.
