In the 1000 meters for women, the Netherlands has no fewer than five trump cards: Naomi Verkerk and Isabel Grevelt open the ball in the first stage. Antoinette Rijpma-de Jong will compete against Rio Yamada in the fifth stage. Femke Kok takes action one stage later against Ayano Sato. Jutta Leerdam – already good for three World Cup victories over the kilometer this year – will meet Brittanny Bowe in the eighth stage. She starts earlier than the two leaders in the rankings: Kimi Goetz rides against Ivanie Blondin in the ninth stage, Miho Takagi competes against Mei Han in the last race. Takagi also rode in Salt Lake City last weekend and recorded the best time of the season: 1.12.35.
The three best men of the European Distance Championships participate in the kilometer on behalf of the Netherlands: Jenning de Boo races against Ryota Kojima in the fourth stage, Tim Prins takes action two races later against Moritz Klein. Kjeld Nuis duels with Taiyo Nonomura in the eighth stage. The former Olympic champion must therefore watch how classification leader Zhongyan Ning fares against Havard Lorentzen. The last ride is a Japanese get-together between the Yamada brothers: Masaya versus Kazuya.
The last individual event of Friday is the 3000 meters for women with five Dutch assets. Elisa Dul rides against Laura Hall in the second stage, Irene Schouten chases recovery against Binyu Yang in the fourth stage. Joy Beune then has to play against Momoka Horikawa. European champion Marijke Groenewoud starts in the penultimate stage against Ivanie Blondin, while Sanne in ‘t Hof takes care of the final stage. Valerie Maltais is her opponent.
The World Cup program ends on Friday with the mass start for men. The two familiar names will be at the start on behalf of the Netherlands: Marcel Bosker and Bart Hoolwerf.
