We are still waiting for the first million-dollar transfer, but transfer fees in women’s football are continuing to rise. Chelsea strengthened themselves today with the Colombian attacker Mayra Ramírez from Levante. The transfer fee is 450,000 euros and can amount to 500,000 euros including bonuses.

That is a record in women’s football, at least according to Levante and most sources. The most expensive transfer to date was that of Keira Walsh from Manchester City to FC Barcelona in 2022, although reports about the amount of that transfer vary from 350,000 pounds (409,000 euros) to 400,000 pounds (467,000 euros).

Jill Roord dropped from second to third place on the list of highest transfer fees in international women’s football with her transfer from VfL Wolfsburg to Manchester City last year. The English club reportedly paid between 300,000 and 400,000 euros for the Dutch international.

The 24-year-old Ramírez reached the quarter-finals with Colombia at the last World Cup. She has played in Spain since 2020, first at Sporting Club de Huelva and since 2022 for Levante. In 95 games in La Liga, she scored 32 times.

In London, Ramírez signed a four-and-a-half-year contract. “I am very honored to be part of Chelsea,” she said on the Blues’ website. “To belong to such a big club has been a dream since I was a little girl.”
