Calculating the huge amount of money I have to spend when returning to my husband’s hometown for Tet gives me a headache

I just got married last year, and these past few days, just thinking about going back to my husband’s hometown to celebrate Tet makes me feel sad.

I am from the North, and my husband’s family is in the South. The couple stayed in the North to work, and only discussed returning to their hometown until Tet.

My husband and I live far from home. If we want to return to our hometown, we will have to fly, so my husband and I discussed buying tickets early so that the whole family can go home to celebrate Tet.

We have been hunting for round-trip air tickets this Lunar New Year for the couple for nearly 20 million. This was the first time I returned to my husband’s hometown after getting married, so my husband wanted to give his parents expensive gifts, including bird’s nest and medicinal wine; In addition, I also want to congratulate my parents with 2 million each.

Furthermore, when we returned to my husband’s house, we had to stay at his eldest brother’s house for a week, so my husband also said we should give him about 5 million as an accommodation fee. My husband’s family has many children and grandchildren, so he also told me to prepare about 10 million in advance to celebrate my birthday. Thus, it is estimated that this amount of money to go to the husband’s house is nearly 50 million, more than the couple’s monthly salary combined.

Spending nearly 50 million on a trip back home for Tet made me extremely sad.

The two of us just got married and are still gathering money to buy a house, so we have to save money for everything we do. Furthermore, if I give too much to my husband’s family, I can only give my parents 5 million this Tet. So, I feel so disadvantaged for them.

Every year it costs tens of millions to return home to celebrate Tet like this, so when will we be able to buy a house?

Should I advise my husband to celebrate Tet at home this year and next year to celebrate Tet abroad to save more money and at the same time be more fair to my parents?
