Below the text there is a column that can be filled in with an email to get into the ‘queue’ to try Friendster early.
Friendster is a social media that was previously known to the Indonesian people. This social media was created by a Canadian programmer named Jonathan Abrams in 2002. The name Friendster is taken from two words, “Friend” which means friend, and “Napster”.
As of June 2008, Friendster had monthly active users reaching 37.1 million people. From these figures, the majority of Friendster users come from Asia. The Asian user figure reaches 33 million monthly active users.
Due to this achievement, Friendster received funding of up to $50 million from several venture capital companies.
After the website’s popularity fell, Friendster was sold to a Malaysian company called MOL Global in 2009 for $40 million.
After that, Friendster turned into an online gaming website. The data of the social media user’s memories, as of May 31, 2011, was deleted by Friendster.
This social media site is popular on the Asian continent, because more than 90 percent of its traffic comes from this region. In Asia, as of 2008, Friendster had more monthly unique visitors than any other social network.
The top 10 countries that frequently access Friendster according to Alexa on May 7 2009 are the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Sudan, South Korea, Bangladesh and India.
