Recap of NBA Games: Denver Suffers Heavy Defeat, Boston Records Historic Victory, and More!

Seven games were on the night’s schedule in the NBA, and defending champion Denver suffered a heavy defeat in New York. The conference leaders, Boston and Minnesota, however, won.

Nikola Jokic learned Thursday that he will play a sixth All Star Game on February 18 in Indianapolis, the eve of his 29th birthday. But the Serb still had a bad evening. His Denver team, reigning champion, was indeed crushed on the New York floor (122-84), even though he scored 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. But his teammates were not in tune, like Jamal Murray (9pts at 3/11) or Aaron Gordon (12pts at 5/10).

The Knicks led from start to finish of the match, widening the gap over the minutes (62-41, mt), in the wake of the Jalen Brunson – OG Anunoby duo, who finished with 21 and 26 points respectively. With only 19.2% three-point success (39.5% for the Knicks), the Nuggets could not hope for much during this match… They therefore remain a victory and a half behind Minnesota, the leader of the West, which won in New York, but with the Brooklyn Nets: 94-96. The Wolves perhaps thought they were winning by a wide margin when they led by 17 points in the third quarter and another thirteen at the start of the last quarter, but the Nets came back to 94-94 with 1’11 remaining. However, Rudy Gobert (10pts, 13rbds) made an alley-oop on a pass from Karl-Anthony Towns (27pts, 10rbds) thirteen seconds later and no more points were scored thereafter, and it is a 32nd victory for the Wolves.

Boston, record victory in Miami

In the East, the leader is Boston, and the Celtics won a 35th victory, on the floor of Miami: 110-143. The C’s played their basketball and were only down 2-0. At the end of the first quarter, they already led 29-42 and had fabulous success during this match: 64% at two points, 55% at three points and 95% on free throws. Jayson Tatum took the opportunity to score 26 points and Kristaps Porzingis 19. This is the first time in its rich history that Boston has scored 143 points in Miami (172 games, play-offs included), and the Celtics have never beaten the Heat by such a margin. Finally, in the clash between the sixth and the third, Indiana beat Philadelphia with a score of 134-122, without ever being behind (73-61, mt). Despite Joel Embiid’s 31 points, the 76ers missed out while opposite, rookie Pascal Siakam delighted, with 26 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists, his first triple-double in fifteen months.
