On Thursday evening, the Kriens residents’ council approved a loan for the partial roofing of the A2 motorway. There was still talk that the entire section would not be reconsidered.

The motorway now runs for around a kilometer through KriensStadt, the canton and the federal government want to upgrade the section and cover it in three places. This as part of the Lucerne Bypass (zentralplus reported).
Now the residents’ council unanimously approved a loan of 640,000 francs on Thursday. The money will flow into further planning of the project. The Federal Roads Office and the Canton of Lucerne are contributing the same amount.
Studies on the structural measures, the creation of the legal framework and clarifications on costs and financing are planned for the next two years.
Disappointment and tax increase
As the “Luzerner Zeitung” writes, despite unanimous approval of the loan, there was a certain disappointment in parliament that the entire section of the motorway was not being covered. This was previously Parliament’s demand and the city’s wish, but it caused friction with the Astra (zentralplus reported).
The Parliament also noted that in further planning, the city, canton and federal government are required to move forward and create the greatest possible added value for Kriens.
A proposal from the GLP that Kriens should not consider a tax increase for financing caused further discussion. According to City President Christa Kaufmann, this would only delay further planning. But we will fight hard to find good solutions for Kriens.
