Former prisoners who returned from the war in Ukraine and were recruited into the “Shurm Z” units sent a collective appeal to Vladimir Putin, reports “Important Stories” (the publication is recognized as an undesirable organization and a “foreign agent”). The statement said that they have not received the promised wages, compensation for injuries or documents to expunge their criminal records.
One of the authors of the appeal told reporters that during recruitment they were promised a “full social package” and equal conditions with other fighters, but they only saw real contracts before they were sent to the front line. It turned out that these were not documents from the Ministry of Defense, but simply agreements for “participation in volunteer formation for the purpose of providing assistance in the liberation of the territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk (people’s republics)”, which were signed by “the head of the DPR.” “
As a result the ex-prisoners were paid only about 100 thousand rubles (about BGN 2,000 at the current exchange rate), although they were promised more than 200 thousand. They also did not receive the promised payments of several million rubles each for injuries sustained.
“We were promised a ‘white paper’: that is, full rehabilitation with no criminal record noted. Neither I nor anyone I know was given a clean record. I was in prison for 20 years, with three years left to serve . Considering where we ended up and what tasks we were performing, I can honestly say that I would not go there just for a pardon,” Roman Polyakov, who participated in the war in Ukraine, told “Important Stories”.
We remind you that the policy of recruiting prisoners began at the beginning of the war in Ukraine, as it was initiated by the late head of mercenaries from PMC “Wagner” Yevgeny Prigozhin, who in a frank statement said “Either Private military companies and prisoners, or your children“.
