Maybe it’s because she works as a flight attendant in a pendolin and is trained for crisis situations. Anyway, when she felt the train slam on the brakes, she mentally braced herself against the seat and held on tight. Maybe that’s how Kateřina Cyříková, who was traveling on a train that crashed into a truck near Dolní Lutyná on Wednesday morning, saved her life.

“I went to work in Bohumín and sat in the carriage right behind the locomotive. Suddenly, I felt the train braking sharply, and then the impact came,” recounts a woman who was a direct participant in Wednesday’s tragic train accident in Dolní Lutyn on Karvinska editors Diary.

“I heard the glass crack and the windows started to fall out. There was panic. The car tilted half to the left, but it didn’t overturn. People tried to leave the train because they didn’t know if it might catch fire,” recalls the thirty-two-year-old woman from Carviné moments of the accident shortly before six in the morning.

Even before the impact, she tried to wedge and hold on so as not to hit her head. “Still, I ended up with my head under the seat. The lady who was sitting next to me started to panic because she thought I had died when my head was under the seat,” says a still shaken Kateřina Cyříková about four hours after the accident.

Panic broke out in the carriage and she was the only one who tried to call somewhere, but in vain, there was no signal.
“Only the messenger worked, so I called my brother, whom I woke up and told him what happened. He immediately called an ambulance to send help. The operator told him on the phone that there was nothing reported there, that she would not send anyone there, so he repeated to her where it happened and urged the operator to send someone there, that there were a lot of injured people. After about a minute, the lady told him that she was worried and that she was sending help to the scene,” recounts Kateřina Cyříková.
ZZS MSK spokesman Lukáš Humpl told the Daily that the aforementioned call was registered by the ZZS operations center and the first call was recorded at 5:50 a.m. and at that time the rescuers already had initial information about the railway accident, they had it from the operator of the Fire and Rescue Service.
“Therefore, at the moment of the gentleman’s call, the first crew was already activated three minutes (at 4:47) and on the way to the scene of the incident. In the same minutes (5:50 onwards), the information was clarified to the firefighters and the callers to line 155 and other EMS teams were dispatched ,” Humpl added.

A young woman was injured in the collision. “The guide was walking around asking us about our injuries and the paramedics were dividing us up accordingly. I was among the first to be taken away because I couldn’t breathe, I have bruised ribs, a dislocated elbow, a split lip, a monocle. Everything hurts,” describes Kateřina Cyříková.
The accident at the crossing in Dolní Lutyn in Karvinska took place on the morning of Wednesday, January 24. Here, the train collided with a truck on the tracks, the driver died, twenty people were injured. The damage is about 37 million crowns.
