In Yakutia, 1054 people with HIV infection are undergoing dispensary observation. Every year, about 100 new cases are identified in the region, YSIA reports.
Places with a high prevalence of HIV infection are Yakutsk, Mirninsky, Lensky, Aldansky, Neryungri and Oymyakonsky districts.
“According to statistics, the incidence rate in Yakutia among other regions of the country is low. There are equal numbers of women and men among HIV-positive patients. The main prevention is the use of contraceptives. A person will be protected if he leads a discriminating sex life,” said Alexandra Zolotareva, chief physician of the Yakutia AIDS Center.
