Timrå shocked Färjestad in the first period | SHL

Anton Wedin gave Timrå IK the lead away to Färjestad.

Twelve minutes into the first period, the goal was 1-0 – and then the visitors continued to wash over the Färjestads defence.

Emil Pettersson extended Timrå’s lead just minutes after the first, forcing Tomas Mitell to take a timeout.

But it didn’t help much.

Instead, Jonathan Dahlén stepped forward and made it 3–0 for Timrå, before the period was over.

– We let way too much go and Timrå takes care of that, said Färjestad’s Per Åslund to TV4.

In the second period, Färjestad managed to shut down Timrå in terms of goals, but did not come any closer to an equaliser.

Instead of a goal forward, Färjestad’s Jeremy Groleau went to a five-minute expulsion and match penalty in the final stages of the period, after a head tackle on Timrå’s Anton Lander.

Färjestad thus had to start the third period with a numerical disadvantage, and even though they managed it without conceding a goal, they never got closer to the visitors.

Mitell’s criticism

In the end, Timrå was victorious with 3–0.

– The last five minutes of the first period and the whole second are good for long periods, but it’s not enough when you give away three goals before that, says Färjestad’s head coach Tomas Mitell to TV4 after the match.

He continues:

– The problem is not the own zone, but rather the way there. We all need to do a better job, myself included. We have to be ready when we get out.

Goalkeeper Jacob Johansson played great in Timrå, who otherwise had an up-and-down season.

– It’s my job. Just step up. It was fun to be able to help the team today. The most important thing is that we get three points. Things are starting to go a little better for us now, he notes.
