Svenska spel wants to close down Casino Cosmopol in Gothenburg and Malmö. Since before, the casino in Sundsvall has been closed. The rest will be in central Stockholm.
On Wednesday, an extraordinary board meeting will be held in Svenska Spel where it is expected to decide to close two of three state casinos, Göteborgs-Posten reports.
This would mean that Casino Cosmopol in Stockholm would be the only one remaining.
The casino building in Malmö is owned by the municipality, the casino in Gothenburg has municipal Higab as landlord. In Stockholm, the casino property (Hasseln 1) at Kungsgatan 65 is owned by the state – which bought it from CA Fastigheter.
The casinos have recently been closed on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
In 2020, Svenska Spel closed its operations in Sundsvall. The property owner there was Diös.
The underlying reason must be the tough financial position that Casino Cosmopol is in, according to information to GP.
There has been the possibility of up to six casinos in Sweden, but the two remaining permits were never used. Visby, Piteå, Borgholm, Halmstad and Åre were discussed, among others, and the idea of seasonally open casinos was brought forward.
