Four new areas declare flu epidemic by the end of the month. IN Pleven temporary measures are introduced from tomorrow – January 24, and in Varna, Burgas and Sofia region from January 25, announced the Ministry of Health. Currently, anti-epidemic measures are in force in the districts Smolyan, Gabrovo and Plovdiv. Thus, there are already seven districts that are in a flu epidemic.
The expectations of the chief state health inspector, Dr. Angel Kunchev, are by the end of the week, a third of the country will be in a flu epidemic. He told Nova TV that Burgas, Yambol, Pazardzhik, Pernik and Sofia region also have pre-epidemic rates of morbidity. He announced that a flu vacation is being considered for the students from Varna, since the percentage of absences from school is much higher among them.
“According to the regulation, it is written that measures are taken in case of 30% student absences”he said, but added that if cases are seen to be increasing, there is no need to wait.
According to Kunchev in the capital, the incidence rate is now rising, but is still far from epidemic values.
The Ministry of Health recalls that in the case of a declared flu epidemic, scheduled consultations of healthy pregnant women and children are suspended; preventive examinations and mandatory immunizations and reimmunizations. A strict daily filter is carried out in nurseries, kindergartens and schools. Visits to medical facilities for hospital care and social institutions for children and adults are prohibited.
Depending on the development of the influenza epidemic in a given area, the temporary anti-epidemic measures may be supplemented, and the period of their effect extended.
Recommendations
The Ministry of Health recommends that all persons with symptoms of an acute respiratory disease (elevated body temperature, runny nose, sore throat, cough, fatigue, etc.) stay at home if possible and visit a doctor. To limit their contacts, especially with small children, pregnant women and the elderly.
It is of particular importance to keep a distance and avoid places with crowds of people, due to the easy mechanism of transmission of respiratory viruses – through sneezing and coughing.
Morbidity data in the country show an increase in flu activity. The most affected by acute respiratory diseases (ARD) are children and young people under 30 years of age.
Following cough etiquette will help reduce the shedding of respiratory viruses on objects and surfaces and reduce the likelihood of infecting susceptible people.
Regular application of personal hygiene and disinfection will also help to reduce the transmission of respiratory viruses from contact with infected surfaces and their passage through the hands through the mucous membranes of the eyes, mouth and nose into the human body.
It is recommended that everyone with ARZ wears a protective mask when in contact with other people.
Due to the clustering of flu and SARS patients in medical facilities, when visiting a doctor, regardless of whether you have a respiratory disease or not, it is also recommended to wear a mask, as well as when communicating with the elderly and pregnant women.
