Netflix Lands Exclusive Deal for WWE’s Monday Night Raw in $5 Billion Agreement

Starting in January 2025, Netflix will be the new exclusive home of the wrestling show Monday Night Raw, produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), in the US, Canada, the United Kingdom and Latin America, among other territories, it was announced this Tuesday the company in a statement, after having paid $5 billion for the agreement.

Both companies confirmed that this is a “long-term” agreement, but the terms were not officially revealed.

However, the specialized press points out today that the agreement between Netflix and WWE has a duration of 10 years and will cost the streaming platform more than 5 billion dollars.

This is the first time that this popular show – number one on NBCUniversal’s USA Network and attracting 17.5 million viewers throughout the year – leaves traditional cable television.

With this purchase, Netflix, which already has a wide range of movies and series, seeks to become an essential subscription for entertainment and live content.

The deal gives Netflix access to about 150 hours of live content per year.

Netflix will also get international rights to other WWE shows, such as ‘SmackDown’ and ‘NXT,’ and other major wrestling events like ‘WrestleMania.’

Other streaming platforms such as Amazon and Warner Bros. Discovery were interested in being Raw’s new home, according to the specialized press.

It is increasingly common for streaming platforms to bet on sports. Another example is Apple TV, which last year integrated the Major League Soccer league into its repertoire.
