Volvo CEO Shows Confidence in Electric Car Market Growth Despite Challenges

Volvo maintains great confidence in the electric car market’s great potential for growth and sees solid demand for its electric cars. In a conversation with a news agency Reuters Volvo CEO Jim Rowan said. Such a comment by the boss of Volvo to some extent contradicts what the heads of other car manufacturers have said, as they see the development of the electric car market in darker colors.

The Swedish brand, which is under the umbrella of the Chinese concern Geely, has big plans specifically for electric cars, and already in 2030, Volvo plans to completely switch to electric car production. Rowan points out that the demand for premium-class electric cars is higher than for middle-class electric cars, but especially high demand for Volvo’s electric models can be observed specifically in Europe.

During the last year, the growth of the electric car market has been slower than expected – in absolute numbers and in terms of percentages, the market and sales have, of course, grown quite rapidly compared to previous years, but not as rapidly as predicted. The rules for electric car subsidies have changed in some countries. Sales are also not supported by the high prices of the machines themselves and the rapid increase in the cost of living in many solvent countries.

The automaker has ambitions to expand and try to break into hitherto unexplored regions – Volvo will start selling its new EX30 electric car in India in 2025. True, in order not to make life seem too rosy, Volvo had to stop production at its plant in Belgium for at least three days because of supply chain problems and the plant not having received gearboxes to produce cars with internal combustion engines.
