Adam Badowski, co-CEO of CD Projekt, announced plans to begin production on the next installment of the blockbuster ‘Witcher’ series. The goal is to have approximately 400 team members dedicated to the project by mid-year.
Expansion of the ‘Witcher’ worldview through ‘Polaris’
Reuters reported that the new game Polaris will be a trilogy that further expands the fascinating worldview of the Witcher medieval fantasy franchise.
Channel News Asia noted that the Witcher series, which has sold more than 75 million copies since its first release in 2007, has many fans eagerly awaiting this new installment.
CD Projekt has not officially announced a release date for the first game in the Polaris Project, but industry analysts expect it to be released sometime between 2026 and 2027. Therefore, it appears that there will be no major game releases in the near future.
Nonetheless, CD Projekt is committed to innovating as a studio and has already made plans for several new games.
After the bug-riddled release of “Cyberpunk 2077” in late 2020, CD Projekt has significantly improved its game creation process. CEO Adam Badowski acknowledged the difficulties and expressed confidence that future games will launch more smoothly and successfully.
Cyberpunk sequel in concept stage
Detailing CD Projekt’s future projects, Badowski revealed that a sequel to ‘Cyberpunk’, codenamed ‘Orion’, is currently in the concept stage. We expect approximately 80 team members to be actively involved in this project by the end of this year.
According to Michael Nowakowski, another co-CEO, CD Projekt is also considering including multiplayer elements in future games. He noted that wage pressures have eased and he expects limited expansion of the Polish studio while it continues to expand its North American studio presence.
Embrace the potential of AI
In pursuit of continuous improvement, the CD Project has formed a dedicated team to explore ways that artificial intelligence (AI) can improve specific processes in game creation. However, Badowski emphasized that AI should be viewed as a tool that augments human work, rather than completely replacing it.
