Exemption Categories for Late Renewal of Emirates ID Card: What You Need to Know

ABU DHABI – The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has clarified the categories exempted from fines for late renewal of the Emirates ID card. If the card is not renewed within 30 days from the expiry date, a penalty of AED 20 per day will be charged. It can go up to a maximum of Dh1,000. However, residents and non-residents can request exemption from fines under certain circumstances.

Applying for waivers on Emirates ID late renewal penalties is free. To initiate a waiver request, individuals must submit an ID card renewal request electronically through one of the authorized printing offices through the AACP website or smart application. The Emirates ID card is mandatory for all residents of the UAE, including Emiratis, citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council countries and expatriates living in the UAE. Any person belonging to one of these categories should apply for an ID card from the AACP and renew it when it expires.

AACP informs on its website and social media channels that there are categories exempted from late fines associated with the Emirates ID Card:

1. If the validity of the card expires after the date of departure from the country by a person who has spent more than three months outside the country after leaving the UAE.

2. When the identity card expires after deportation by court order, administrative decisions and judicial ruling.

In cases where the passport is not impounded, if this is proved by a letter or receipt issued by the competent authorities, upon deportation or suspension of pending cases.
