Hungary intends to restore the ban on the supply of Ukrainian grain to European countries, which was in force until September last year. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations of Hungary, Peter Szijjártó.
“We would like to return to the original agreement, the essence of which was to ensure transit, and not the import of Ukrainian grain that flooded the markets of Central Europe,” Peter Szijjarto emphasized during a meeting of the heads of trade departments of the EU countries. It took place in Brussels. Broadcast of the meeting spent Hungarian TV channel M1. The minister added that at the moment Hungary does not allow the import of Ukrainian grain into its territory in order to protect its own market.
In the fall of 2023, the European Commission refused to extend the embargo on supplies of wheat, corn and other grain crops to Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. In this regard, Central European countries introduced a ban on the import of Ukrainian grain. Countries such as Poland and Slovakia continue to maintain embargoes on the import of Ukrainian grain, despite possible fines from the European Union, betrays “National News Service.” Countries believe that emergence of Ukrainian grain causes economic harm in their domestic market.
