Dangerous Pasta and Other Objectionable Foods Found in Czech Food Stores

People who like pasta dishes should be careful where they buy them. Some species can be dangerous to health.

Inspectors of the State Agricultural and Food Inspection find a number of objectionable foods in food stores in the Czech Republic. It is about fruit and vegetables, cheese or meat. On Událostech247, we wrote, for example, about strawberries from Kaufland that contained dangerous pesticides. Consuming this fruit in large quantities is really dangerous to health.

The most common are pesticides and mold

Similar captures are quite common. We also reported on packaged carrots weighing 10 kilograms, which were sold in Valašské Meziříčí. This carrot was unhealthy because according to the inspection, the maximum residue limit was twice exceeded in it the pesticide linuron. The quality of many hard cheeses, which Czechs buy in bulk, does not stand out either. Inspection reveals defective pieces quite often.

We wrote on Událostech247, for example, about the fact that the Brno store sold packaged Albéniz Quesos Ibérico smoked cheese, which had an expiration date of February 24, 2024. On the surface of this cheese however, there was mold under the intact packaging greenish color. In the Tesco chain, they even sold several types of hard Italian-type cheeses, which were covered with green mold from the first glance, as we reported on Událostech247.

Dangerous pasta

Recently, there has been a serious concern about food safety in Kaufland chain stores. The State Agricultural and Food Inspection found that one type of pasta may pose a risk of poisoning to consumers. Specifically, it was the product K Bio Dinkel-Vollkorn Fusilli. The maximum permitted limit for the content of ergot alkaloids was exceeded in the said food.

These alkaloids are produced by the purple mullein fungus and cause poisoning, as the inspectorate reported on its website Food on a sackcloth. Specifically, it was a Kaufland store in Hodonín in Konečná Street. The expiration date on the pasta was 4/11/2026, so customers may still have them at home. „I go to Kaufland often, I like it a bit. I am surprised that these pastas are labeled as Organic and yet they are actually dangerous to health,” said Ms. Hedvika from Znojmo to Událostem247.
