EU Member Countries Reach Agreement on Military Operation to Ensure Security of Commercial Shipping in Red Sea: Reports

The EU member countries have reached an agreement in principle on the need to conduct a military operation to ensure the security of commercial shipping in the Red Sea, German media report citing EU diplomacy head Josep Borrell.

It is noted that following the meeting of the EU foreign ministers, Borrell indicated that the EU countries “discussed various options for this mission,” the purpose of which is to protect ships from attacks by the Yemeni Houthis. Ideally, the operation should begin in February, German media quote the head of European diplomacy as saying.

According to Western media reports, the mission is scheduled to be launched on February 19. It will include at least three European warships.
