Bulgaria is in first place in the world in terms of total mortality, but nevertheless I am an optimist. Processes are not understood in depth, because only the snapshot is viewed. The demographic situation is difficult, but there is certainly a way out and I am convinced that we will be able to reverse the negative trend. This was stated on Nova News by the writer and demographer Assoc. Georgi Burdarov.
According to him, the solution to the demographic crisis will not be achieved only with investments in North-West Bulgaria, but such investments should also be made in North-Central Bulgaria, the Southern Rhodopes, Strandzha-Sakar, etc.
Prof. Burdarov reported that for 2023 we have positive mechanical growth, as well as an increase in the fertility rate by nearly 1.8%, which places us in third place in the EU.
It is very important to stop negative talk because it sends a bad signal to young people. After all, who will be left to give birth to children when we constantly talk about how hopeless it is in Bulgaria?! We need to change our rhetoric, the demographer recommended.
He also added that Bulgarians are currently infinitely divided, giving an example that we cannot be happy about the successes of such famous compatriots as Georgi Gospodinov, Grigor Dimitrov and Nurgyul Salimova.
It is imperative that we come together and give a message to the youth that it makes sense. We are by no means the most backward, we just need to give a positive message to the youth. Because the new leaders and visionaries will come precisely from the young people of Bulgaria, concluded Prof. Burdarov.
