Mystery Surrounding Wagner Boss Yevgeny Prigozhin’s Death Resurfaces: Ukrainian Intelligence Chief Claims Lack of Evidence

In August last year, ten people lost their lives when a private plane crashed in Russia. Notorious Wagner director Yevgeny Prigozhin was among those confirmed dead by Russian authorities.

Now – almost half a year later, Kyrylo Brudanov, head of the Ukrainian intelligence service, claims that the Wagner boss may not be dead after all.

Report: Can be left alone

He says that in an interview with Financial Times.

– The Wagner Group exists. And when it comes to Prigozhin, I would not be so quick to draw conclusions, says the intelligence chief, and continues:

– I am neither saying that he is dead nor dead. I’m just saying that there isn’t a shred of evidence that he’s dead.

Exactly two months before the overthrow, the Wagner group, under Prigozhin’s leadership, started an armed mutiny against the Kremlin, which led Vladimir Putin to label those involved terrorists.

Naturally, speculation about what “really” happened to the plane abounded. Several Russian military bloggers claimed that the plane was shot down.

Other media, such as Wall Street Journalwrites that a bomb was placed in the plane.

The Danish senior analyst at the think tank Europe, Jacob Kaarsbo, says Danish TV 2 that Brudanov’s question about Prigozhin’s death is not a conspiracy theory.

– He is right that there is no evidence that Prigozhin is dead, he says to the Danish channel.

So far, the Russian authorities have not produced photos or DNA evidence that can document the death of the Wagner leader.

Danske TV 2, on the other hand, has also spoken to Jakob Tolstrup, Russia expert and associate professor at Aarhus University. He believes Burdanov can benefit from casting doubt on Prigozhin’s death.

Tolstrup says the doubt can damage Putin’s image, and that the Wagner boss is most likely dead, according to him.
