UK: The teeth worn by Winston Churchill during his famous “We will fight on the beaches” speech will be sold at auction next month.
The teeth are expected to fetch around £5,000 to £8,000 at auction. Liz Poole, director of The Cotswold auction house, said Churchill’s gold teeth were among the most unusual items ever sold.
British Prime Minister Winston Churchill used these custom-made dentures to help him overcome a speech impediment he suffered as a child. Also, he kept a spare pair of teeth. It is believed that up to four sets of teeth were made for him.
At least one of these is buried with him. The tooth, now donated to the Museum of the Royal College of Surgeons in London, was designed for Churchill by his dentist, Sir Wilfred Fish Am. They were made by a technician named Derek Cudlip.
The microphone used by Churchill to announce the end of World War II is also up for sale along with the teeth. It is also expected to cost around £5,000 to £8,000. Another treasure trove, the ‘Britain Book of Heroes’, featuring signatures of over 100 Royal Air Force pilots, is expected to fetch between £10,000 – £20,000.
