Lethal Company’s 2023 horror hit appears to have sold 10 million copies since its Early Access release in mid-October.
Push to Talk estimated sales to reach $113.9 million and gross revenue of $113.9 million. The latter figure was determined using the Boxleiter method, which takes into account user reviews, prices and Valve’s share.
Using the same method, the publication determined that the game’s net income currently stands at $33.6 million. The game has hundreds of thousands of reviews, and the number of players has fluctuated between 120,000-240,000 for several months.
Within weeks of release, Lethal Company reached 115,000 concurrent users on Steam. By the end of 2023, it entered the Silver ranking of the best-selling games on the platform and reached over 150,000 players.
Speaking to Push to Talk about the game, developer Zeekerss called it “a game about laughing at death.”
The 21-year-old developer began creating games in 2012 using Roblox’s game creation tools. After the release of Silent Dark in 2016, he switched to creating experimental games on itch.io and then on Steam.
As a result, these games caught the attention of content creators and attracted his own audience. He then used them to conduct small playtests for Lethal Company two months before its release.
Ultimately, the success of the game was ensured by the influence acquired by the author and word of mouth. No matter how many copies the game has sold, it’s not hard to believe that it has sold quite well over the past three months.
Assessing the reception of Lethal Company, he called it “a rare and successful experience.” It’s “a different kind of uncertainty,” but the main thing for him is to stay humble and keep making games.
