Poland and Lithuania to Strengthen Military Cooperation: Plans for Joint Exercises and Defense Zone Formation With Baltic Countries

Poland and Lithuania will expand military cooperation. The presidents of Poland and Lithuania, Andrzej Duda and Gitanas Nauseda, announced this at a joint press conference following the meeting in Vilnius.

Warsaw and Vilnius plan to conduct joint exercises and train armed forces, as well as strengthen military mobility, writes the DW* main telegram channel.

According to Duda, special attention, monitoring and concentration requires the Suwalki corridor – a section of the border between the two countries between the Russian Kaliningrad region and Belarus, the potential capture of which would cut off the Baltic countries from NATO ground forces.

Nauseda, in turn, noted the need to continue political, financial and military assistance to Ukraine.

As reported EADaily, the Baltic countries agreed to create a common defense zone on their borders with Russia. This was stated by the Estonian Ministry of Defense.

The corresponding agreement was signed in Riga by the defense ministers of the Baltic countries. It provides, in particular, for the construction of a network of strongholds and sentinel posts.

“In peacetime, explosives, clearings and other obstacles should not be placed in the security zone, and a network of strongholds and sentinel posts should be created,” the document says.
